Tiktok has taken the world by storm since its global launch in 2018, and more importantly, our kitchens have been shaped by the 15-60 second video trends that we consume from the comfort of our phone screens. From feta pasta to whipped coffee, Tiktok creators have been the source of inspiration for many to get back into the kitchen to keep up with today’s latest trends. The simple hashtag “#food” has over 273 BILLION views, whereas the same hashtag on Instagram has just over 480 million, meaning that Tiktok just may be the newest trendsetter in social media.
While I’ve loved seeing the rise in home-cooking over the past few years, as well as the tips and tricks that have been shared online, I can’t help but wonder… can I put a Jew-ish spin on these trending recipes? To find out, I’ve chosen three up and coming food trends discovered on Tiktok in the last year. While we’ve all had our fair share of Baked Feta Pasta, boasting an entire block of feta cheese (yes, even if we’re largely lactose intolerant), and sickly sweet whipped Dalgona coffee made with just sugar, instant coffee, and water, it’s time to move on, and put unique twists on the recipes that have won the hearts and stomachs of hungry viewers across the globe.

This viral salad was actually shared by Melissa Ben-Ishay, a mom, entrepreneur and the Melissa behind Baked By Melissa, the New York City brand famous for its bite-size cupcakes and treats. Her recipe for the now viral Green Goddess Salad is far from ordinary, where she encourages viewers to enjoy it with tortilla chips, inside of a wrap or in their sandwich. While this recipe is one that I’ve made time and time again (and always ends with me finishing an entire head of cabbage within a day or two), it’s the perfect place to start for a Jew-ish spin on the viral dish.
Instead of cabbage, I’ve based this version on an Israeli Salad with a tahini dressing, loaded with cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, pickles, parsley, mint, za’atar and a lemon-tahini dressing that is packed with flavor. The third and final trend that has been revolutionizing breakfasts across the globe is a simple blend of just 3 ingredients: eggs, honey, and yogurt! Spooned into a bread boat and baked into a sweet custard, this breakfast is simple enough to eat throughout the week, but delicious enough for a weekend brunch, in a pinch!
