I, Pencil: The Movie

November 7, 2021 | by Competitive Enterprise Institute, adapted from Leonard E. Read's 1958 Essay

Can a single individual, working independently and from scratch, create an ordinary yellow pencil?

This is a video about the miracle of the free market, based on Leonard E. Read's insightful and creative parable. We present it here because it also brings to life the mind-boggling intricacy and inter-dependency of endless steps, guided by an Invisible Hand, that allows us to benefit from every object we have in our lives. It is that sense of awe that should infuse the blessings Jews make numerous times a day.
