If my father is Sephardic and my mother is Ashkenazi, am I Sephardic? Also, if I am considered Sephardic and I marry an Ashkenazi man, am I still Sephardic?

The Aish Rabbi Replies

If your father is Sephardic, then you are considered Sephardic as well. (The same is true if a person’s father is a Kohen and mother is not. Other than Jewishness itself which follows the mother, most other matters of lineage follow the father.)

Likewise in terms of marriage, if you would marry an Ashkenazi man, you will be an Ashkenazi by marriage and follow his customs. If you have existing customs or practices which are more stringent than his, then you may continue to keep them so long as he doesn’t mind.
