A bit confused and, surprisingly, inaccurate for Aish! Pius XII (12) obviously was NOT the “predecessor” of Pius XI (11) but his successor; and as one commenter already noted his failure, according to Aish, appears to be that he died at the wrong time. Yes, Pius XII could and certainly could have done more!! But to understand what many Catholics in Italy 🇮🇹 did to save many, please read It Happened in Italy. Many Righteous of the Nations, never recognized for doing what everyone, including their Pope should have done.
May their memory be a blessing!

Hi Ron,

I'm the author of the article. One, thank you for pointing out my typo. Yes I meant successor! My mistake. Two, as for your criticism that Pius XI "died at the wrong time", remember the name of the game is "Were they good for the Jews" not "Did they like the Jews" or were they "benevolent for the Jews." My take is that Pius XI's supportive attitudes but inconvenient time of death may have lulled many Jews into a false sense of security just before grave misfortunes. I'm not saying he was a bad guy.

As for Pius XII, there is much controversy about public and secret dealings regarding the Jews in Italy, but that's a debate for another article!

Was Haman good for the Jews?
We'd say not, but the Talmud says that several of his grandsons converted and were studying Torah in Beni Brak (one of the foremost cities in Israel, in addition to Jerusalem). The Talmud explains that while Haman is certainly not on the list of those who were good for the Jews, yet there was one favor he did do for us - and that was getting us to repent! Well, the Talmud continues and explains that God never withholds the reward of ANY being! If so, even if one benefits another in such a convoluted way (plotted to destroy the entire nation!), ultimately, he brough them benefit AND GETS REWARDED FOR IT!!! His reward was that some of his descendants converted and were studying Torah. There cannot be a greater reward than that!!!

Was Hitler good for the Jews?

We’d certainly say not (granted!), but consider the following story:

Rabbi Pesach Krohn, a renowned lecturer and author (and mohel – performs bris mila/circumcision) relates the fowling story about his brother, Rabbi Kolman, of blessed memory, of Lakewood NJ.

Rabbi Kolman was once in Israel, and a secular taxi driver picked him up – but had a sour face. Rabbi Koman understood the implication, and said to him ‘we are brothers (ananchnu achim)!’.

They began driving, and the driver snapped back ‘we are not brothers! (Anachnu lo achim!); you are religious, and I am secular!’

Rabbi Kolman calmly replied, “My rabbi taught me that all Jews are brothers, regardless of their religious status.”

“Really?!, who is your rabbi?”

“Hitler!”

(continued in reply..)

The taxi driver was so shocked that he literally lost control of the vehicle, and it served; Rabbi Kolman said he thought they would crash! But the driver quickly regained control, and, as they continued to drive, said ‘you are one in a million!’ Rabbi Kolman replied ‘no, two in a million; we are brothers!’

It is important to refer to Wellington by that title not to confuse him with his brother or his earlier career in India. He was an Anglican (Episcopalian) traditionalist and aristocrat who also delayed Roman Catholic Emancipation and the 1832"Great" Reform Bill that systematised Parliamentary elections and updated the constituencies according to the effects of the Industrial Revolution.

Those who fought Napoleon were all against the French Revolution and the embodiment of the Enlightenment that was the Revolutionary Era of BOTH the USA and the FRENCH Revolution. The French version was more important in Europe till WW II because French was the international language till the 1940 Fall of France.

I am sorry that I mistook Anton Chekhov for an antisemite. When I read his bio I was shocked to see how wrong I was about him.

This was interesting . . . but . . . it was basically a bate and switch. Like, the Pope was bad because he died at the wrong time???? That's silly. And Tesla publicly spoke against Jews, but had them as friends? Well then, I guess we should all be fine with those people publicly supporting terrorism but who are still nice to our faces.

This could have been much better.

Hi Lauren,

I'm the author of the article. Thank you for your feed back. Regarding the Pope, remember the name of the quiz is "Were they good for the Jews," not "Were they a friend to the Jews."

As for Tesla, his public comments weren't made in a grand speech or publication, but more passing comments of a casual nature. Should he have stood up more boldly against the attitudes of the day? Perhaps, but just reflect that merely 20 years ago, certain aspects of our society were casually derided, not out of hate, but more out of insensitivity.

As for your comment about "Jewish friends" not justifying the person, I think the fact that Tesla's Jewish friend published his autobiography in his own publication speaks boldly to the relationship and to Tesla's true nature.

Actually, most comic books were created by Jews because of anti semitism in the publishing companies a long time ago so the Jews started their own industry being involved in creating comic books so that is why comic books were mostly a Jewish field any your survey has to do with anti semites and comic books super heroes came about by real anti semitism in most publishing work places
