On Sukkot, I helped a non-religious Jew take the four species. I realized after that I helped him say the blessing but his head was uncovered at the time. Was that correct?

The Aish Rabbi Replies

It’s great that you took the initiative to help another Jew. It is true that a male must have his head covered when he recites a blessing. (The real issue is saying God’s name, which a blessing includes.) Although after the fact, the blessing is valid even if his head wasn’t covered, you should see to it that he does cover his head first, even with his sleeve or a tissue. If he doesn’t want one or for some reason it’s not feasible, you should just have him do the mitzvah without a blessing.
