An award-winning photographer’s love letter to the city of Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is often documented through its stones: the Western Wall, the steeples, the walls. The book Jerusalemites seeks to shift the gaze from symbols to the living texture; from myth to reality. The perspective presented here is that of a native, a son of a family whose roots have been planted deep in this city for generations. It is a gaze born of living in the city.

This book is a documentation of 15 years and was meticulously constructed as a complex tapestry. Beyond a collection of photographs, it holds within it layers revealed through the affinity between the images and the narrative sequence; connections ranging from the geometric and visual to conceptual and critical statements. This is Jerusalem without makeup. Jerusalem of flesh and blood. These are the Jerusalemites.

Thank you to the Jerusalemites. The most complex, painful, and beautiful human mosaic in the world. You, who live between the holy and the profane, between a glorious past and a demanding present, and carry the weight of this city day by day. Thank you for being there, in the streets and alleys, turning stone into man and place into home.
