Yom HaAtzmaut — Israel’s Independence Day — is a celebration of perseverance, hope, and the miraculous rebirth of a people in their ancient homeland.

When a country celebrates its birthday, what do you give it?

Israel, born from a 2,000-year-old dream and now a modern, dynamic and resilient country, doesn’t need balloons or cake. Yom HaAtzmaut — Israel’s Independence Day — isn’t just a national holiday. It’s a celebration of perseverance, hope, and the miraculous rebirth of a people in their ancient homeland. The challenges Israel faces are real, and its needs are ongoing. But the most meaningful gifts we can offer aren’t material — they’re personal, spiritual, and communal.

Here are 10 meaningful gifts to give Israel on its birthday — gifts that express connection, care, and commitment.

1. Defend and Discuss

Stand up for Israel’s right to exist and thrive. In a time when misinformation spreads quickly, being informed and vocal matters. While it shouldn’t be necessary to defend Israel’s right to exist, in today’s environment it is – so defend Israel’s legitimacy in conversations, on social media, in classrooms, and in community spaces. Don’t shy away from nuanced discussions — embrace them.

Real support means not only loving Israel, but being willing to explain why. And don’t forget the political arena: reach out to your elected officials — your congressperson, senator, or local representative — and ask them to support Israel. Your voice counts.

2. Read, Watch & Study

To love Israel is to understand her. Read about her history. Watch documentaries about Jewish and Israeli history. Study the region’s complex geopolitics. Learn about Israel’s many communities — Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, Ethiopians, Russians, Mizrahi and Ashkenazi Jews, and more. A deeper understanding leads to a deeper bond — and more thoughtful conversations.

3. Do a Mitzvah

Every good deed strengthens the Jewish people — and, by extension, Israel. Give charity. Help someone in need. Light Shabbat candles. Make a blessing on your food. Acts of kindness and mitzvot bring spiritual merit and reinforce the values Israel was built on.

4. Learn Torah

Israel is more than just a country — it’s the spiritual heartbeat of the Jewish people. Learning Torah is the deepest way to connect with the Jewish people, Jewish land, and Jewish story. Whether it’s opening a Torah book, joining a class (a “shiur”), or listening to a podcast, engaging with Torah strengthens both your soul and your link to the land.

5. Visit

Nothing compares to being there. Visit Jerusalem’s ancient stones, Tel Aviv’s energy, Tzfat’s mysticism, and the Negev’s quiet strength. Walk the land. Meet the people. Spend your money in local businesses and bring your experiences back home. It’s not just tourism — it’s solidarity and connection.

6. Buy Israeli Products

Support Israel’s vibrant economy by purchasing Israeli-made goods — many of which are widely available around the world. From kosher wines and olive oils to Dead Sea cosmetics and handcrafted Judaica, every purchase matters. Buying Israeli products boosts small businesses, strengthens Israel’s export economy, and brings a piece of the land into your home.

7. Support Israeli Soldiers

Israel’s soldiers protect the country under incredibly difficult conditions. Show them you care. Donate to organizations that provide for their needs. Send letters of encouragement. Express gratitude publicly. These brave young men and women are our heroes — and they should feel that.

8. Encourage Aliyah

Supporting Aliyah — helping Jews return home — is one of the most impactful things you can do. Whether you're encouraging a friend to consider it, donating to organizations that assist new olim, or simply honoring the courage it takes to make the move, you’re investing in Israel’s future.

9. Strengthen Jewish Unity

Israel’s strength lies in the unity of the Jewish people — even when we disagree. Make the effort to see past differences: religious, political, or cultural. Choose connection over conflict. Speak kindly. Assume good intentions. We are one people with one heart, and Israel needs us united – now more than ever.

10. Pass It On to Your Family

Israel isn’t just a place — it’s a legacy. Teach your children and grandchildren about its history, its miracles, and its meaning. Share family stories, sing Jewish and Hebrew songs, and celebrate Jewish holidays. Help the next generation feel connected to their Jewish identity and to Israel — not just as a country on a map, but as part of their identity. The future of Israel – and of the Jewish People as a whole - depends on our ability to pass on that love and connection, one family at a time.

This Yom HaAtzmaut, give Israel your values, your passion, your time, and your love!

War is war and israel by the way is I think the only country in the world that in times of war warns its enemies please clear the area so nobody gets hurt they send down leaflets in arabic before they bomb the areas they have to bomb . If they dont follow orders and want to be heroes amd show off their babies covered in blood that is their choice . By the way people focus on the outcome of a war but not what started it maybe watch some videos of october 7th that are available to be viewed to be reminded . By the way that was king shauls mistake that we are still suffering from today no need to talk about here .
