Why do orthodox women shave their hair?

Orthodox women are NOT required to shave their heads. Nevertheless, a number of years ago in Hungary some pious women did initiate such a custom, based on an esoteric statement from the Zohar that says: "The walls of the ritual bath (Mikveh) shall not see her hair." It was also based on the need to not have any obstructions when going to the Mikveh. Today it is very uncommon for orthodox women to shave their hair - an extremely small percentage.
