Catchy slogans creating polarization and spreading extremist views.
Catchy slogans are crucial in encapsulating a brand or product in just a few words and increasing brand recognition. But they can also be used for harmful purposes, such as spreading hate and lies. In Nazi Germany, propaganda slogans incited hatred, fueled discrimination, and unified people under a malevolent ideology.
Nazis meticulously designed slogans to instigate passivity and acceptance of the discriminatory actions taken against the Jewish population. These slogans portrayed the Nazi regime as a force restoring order, masking their true intentions behind a facade of perceived injustices against ethnic Germans in neighboring countries acquired post-World War I.
"All effective propaganda must limit itself only to a very few points and to use them like slogans." —Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
Following the invasion of the Soviet Union, Nazi propaganda intensified its efforts, supporting narratives that linked Soviet Communism with European Jewry. Germany positioned itself as the protector of "Western" values against the supposed "Judeo-Bolshevik threat," painting a grim picture of the consequences of a Soviet victory. These propaganda tactics, significantly amplified after the devastating defeat at Stalingrad, played a pivotal role in rallying support from both loyalists and coerced collaborators to continue the fight until the bitter end.
These slogans were used as powerful tools for evoking emotional and psychological responses that aligned with the Nazi propaganda objectives.
Today, slogans are used to create polarization and spread extremist views. Following the tragic events of Hamas's attack on October 7th, there has been a notable surge in global support for Palestinians. This wave of solidarity has been fueled, in part, by impactful slogans that have become synonymous with the movement. However, many of these slogans carry inherent antisemitic undertones and advocate violence and the destruction of the State of Israel.
The prevalence of these slogans at pro-Palestinian rallies, particularly in major cities like New York and London, has coincided with a concerning rise in antisemitism. These parallel crises are not isolated but interconnected, fueled by a collective turning of a blind eye and deaf ear to the hateful rhetoric expressed during pro-Palestinian demonstrations, on university campuses, and in the media.
Below are some of the common phrases utilized by supporters of Hamas:
The widely used slogan "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" advocates for a Palestinian state that stretches from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, effectively eradicating the presence of Jews and dismantling Israel. Originating back to the establishment of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1964, the chant historically called for a Palestinian state based on pre-1948 borders, contrasting with the Oslo Accords' pursuit of a two-state solution.
Despite subsequent developments like the formation of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the PLO's recognition of Israel in the 1990s, the persistence of these chants underscores a continued push for Israeli displacement and the annihilation of Israel itself. While proponents argue for equal rights under a unified Palestinian state, the phrase has been interpreted differently by Hamas leaders, emphasizing uncompromising territorial claims devoid of Israeli presence. The US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a resolution denouncing the chanting, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." The House's resounding vote of 377-44 not only condemned the chant but also classified it as antisemitic, marking a significant stance against such rhetoric.
This slogan and "There is Only One Solution: Intifada Revolution!" promotes a worldwide uprising in support of Palestinian resistance against Israel. The term "Intifada," meaning "shaking off," symbolizes violent actions to combat Israeli control, historically associated with deadly attacks like those during the First and Second Intifadas. Advocates for globalizing this movement seek to broaden the scope of Palestinian resistance, linking it to broader international struggles and challenging systems of oppression.
While some of its proponents advocate for peaceful activism, using a term synonymous with violent resistance raises concerns regarding the underlying motivations and implications of such a call to action.
This chant resonates with the Palestinian Authority's Martyrs Fund, known colloquially as "Pay For Slay," which compensates families of individuals involved in violence against Israelis. Despite measures like the US's Taylor Force Act aimed at curbing such incentivized violence, the fund continues unabated, underscoring a glorification of terrorism within certain circles.
The Martyrs Fund, initiated in 2004 during the Second Intifada, serves to incentivize and support individuals engaged in anti-Israel activities, perpetuating a culture of violence and martyrdom. This celebration extends even to Hamas terrorists responsible for egregious attacks, reflecting a deep-seated glorification of violent acts in pursuit of political objectives.
Another frequent chant encountered at demonstrations, this phrase claims that the ideology supporting a Jewish national state is inherently discriminatory and undermines the Palestinian cause. The Soviet Union spearheaded the campaign to equate Zionism with racism, drawing from the fake Protocols of the Elders of Zion to support their claims. By misrepresenting Judaism's concept of the "chosen people" as promoting racial superiority, they laid the groundwork for a malicious slur that distorted the essence of Judaism.
This defamation spread to other regions, where accusations of Zionism being racist were repeated. While criticism of specific Israeli policies is valid, branding Zionism as intrinsically racist is not only discriminatory but also denies the Jewish people the right to self-determination—an entitlement afforded to all other nations. This phrase undermines Israel's legitimacy and undermines the rich diversity of Jewish life within the country.
This slogan may not be as straightforward as others, and it seems like a righteous cause at first sight. Activist and former politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali has remarked that "Free Palestine" can be seen as antisemitism disguised as anti-colonialism. The current wave of anti-Jewish sentiment, veiled as support for Palestine, is often fueled by Islamic motives, aiming to normalize and legitimize hatred towards Zionists or Jews.
When observing global events and studying the Nazi regime, it is evident how powerful slogans can be in disseminating hateful propaganda. We must remain vigilant against the power of propaganda and critically assess the messages we encounter in order to resist being manipulated.

The Mispacha magazine had a person say that Germans and Europe deserves Muslims because they murdered/ killed Jews, and Europe is going down hill a
Cont. and Europe is still anti semitic and are not supporting Jews yet again so Jews will leave Europe and the anti semites will end up with Muslims and Muslims will be the majority and non Muslims will be the minority and be the new Jews so to speak and wish the Jews didn't leave because then see what a big problem they got on their hand because they didn't protect and be nice to the Jewish population and they deserve what they get in the end
Love how you equated Nazis to Palestinians, its as if they did the H*caust on your people. Get out of occupied land, end colonialism, end apartheid. This is the crusade 2.0, only this time the Jews are being duped to carry it out and it will fail just like the first time. Sadly many innocents (on both sides) are going to pay the price
Every Jew everywhere!
Sing!
"From the River to the Sea!
Israel shall always be!"
Right, and Am Yisrael Chai
When Moshiach( messiah) comes Israel will be much bigger than now
I’m afraid for the safety of jews like me who have no family and are isolated
Sorry to hear that. I hope you can find a community you feel safe with near you. And know being a Jew makes you part of a very large family of Jews around the world. There are online forums as well for Jewish people to connect.
I agree, there is a song we are all family all my sisters and me( with Jews there is brothers too) all Jews are related and family whatever you are part of the tribe of being a Jew
Ilene, bravo! Proud to read your wonderful, supportive article! Miriam
Ironically, the very solgans put forth by the opposing side are 100% political, and not religious; their whole design to attack a religious minority group, just like Hitler did.
In no instance does the Quran advocate territorial expansion. It discusses rights to practice, and religious obligations for followers. The Quran also condemns the October 7th murder, mischief and mayhem in the land.
The Palestians have been put in an emotional, and socio-economic cage by their leaders , who are operating off of an agenda outside of the Quran.
No one has denied them their right to pray, nor their religious requirements such as halal food.
Their leaders are sending them astray. They are obligated to rise up against them, and restore peace.
Adolf Hitler was poor.
He had failed his family by leaving his country home and going to the city.
He was unsuccessful making a place for himself in the city.
In his bitterness, he looked around for someone to blame.
He targeted the only group he could find that had stability, stability based on: Religion, family values, and love of God, and love of neighbor.
Everything he should have wanted, and chose not to have.
He made himself into a demon, just as present day people are.
HaShem knows all you do, and will punish you in good time for stepping out of the humanity lane into the Adversary's lane just to do as you do.
Are you essentially saying it was our 'bad luck' that he went for the Jews when he was searching for someone to blame? Had he found the Quakers, for instance, instead, there would be 6 million more of us (plus progeny) walking around?
I was always fed the 'scapegoat' theory as a kid - he needed someone to blame for Germany's woes - and again, we lost the unlucky toss of the dice.
These are psychological and political theories that stun with their superficiality. The truth is soooooo much deeper. The spiritual war between the forces of light and darkness that has been playing out for millennia and the culmination of which draws nearer every day.
You are right 100%
While I appreciate the purpose of this well researched article, I believe the phrasing of several ideas therein can do more harm than good if an objective person who's trying to understand the overall issue (does such a person exist?!) reads it:
In point # 1, the phrase "equal rights under a ... Palestinian state" creates a few problems. First of all, there already is a Palestinian state; it's called Jordan!
Too many people don't know the history of the region, and it's admirable that Aish has tried to rectify this, but we must attempt to make sure that our factual statements are not open to misinterpretation, as this one is because it reads as though Arab residents do not have rights equal to Jews' -- a blatant lie that "pro-Palestinians" enjoy propagating!
(To be continued ...)
... As for the so-called Palestinians, where & when in the annals of history has a nation been called upon to support those who seek its annihilation!
But if one is a puppet of the anti-Israel media who distort or don't report the facts, that person's judgment becomes impaired from all the falsification he/she so readily swallows until they can't identify the real victim.
Pont 2 explains intifada as "violent actions to combat Israeli control."
What Israeli control is this referring to? The world easily forgets – or doesn't want to hear – that Israel gave up control of Gaza for the sake of peace almost 2 decades ago, and what we've received in return is terrorism
Right
Actually Jordan is 80 % of ancient biblical Israel and the Jews only 20% of our land we need land not give up land I am a fan of Rabbi Meir Kahane( obm) he( obm) wrote a book " They Must Go" and he( obm) was right about what will happen in exile and Israel, Kahane( obm) was right 100% you see what is happening now he( obm) foresaw this happening a while back
People told them don't kick us out of Gush Katif you will have terror instead of fruits, veggies, flowers etc also terror tunnels why did the Israeli government give the enemy money and supplies to build terror tunnels there are any trains there only to do 10/ 07/23 in New York there is actually trains get through tunnels which was build under the water
The student protesters claim to just want their universities to divest from Israel and the war industries or support the Palestinians, but these (and many other) chants among the encampments and protests have nothing to do with university policies or Palestinians and everything to do with delegitimizing the existence of the state of Israel and hating Jews.
The real "Palestinians" are the Jews the others are imposters, what is happening now is in the prophets that Ishmael wants the inheirtance which really belongs to Jews and when Moshiach comes the question will be answered it belongs to the Jews but until then we got a big problem on our hands this is the outcome of the gift/ present Abraham got when he left Egypt and got princess Hager
Great piece!
How about “You will not displace us” as a counter-slogan?
Good idea!
Actually this is a war good vs evil, if you are religious you will know this what is happening now is in the prophets about Ishmael wants the inheritance of Israel which belongs to the Jews and won't be resolved until Moshiach comes and this the outcome of Hager having Ishmael and in the Torah says Sarah says send Hager and Ishmael away and Rabbi Meir Kahane( obm) wrote a book " They Must Go" that was what Sarah said too a long time ago
Israel is the rightful inheirtance of the Jews, Rashi explains in the Torah why it says why G _ d created the heavens and earth if anyone says we are thiefs that we stole land we say Hashem created the heavens and earth and G _ d gave the land to the Jews and the Torah is the deed to our land if your religious you should know this I know this Hashem made contract some call it like marriage contract with the Jews and not another nation but Jews why should anyonr displace us the land is ours even a anti semite in Poland said to my mom( obm)" Jew go to Palestine" so why can't Jews get this fact
