At the outset of Iran's Islamic Revolution, nearly 75 percent of the nation's 80,000 Jews fled. The event that convinced them that Iran was no longer safe was the arrest and hasty execution of noted community leader and businessman, Habib Elghanian, who, for no reason other than being Jewish, was convicted of being an Israeli spy. His fortune was confiscated and his killers have never been brought to justice.
