I found some information about Aish.com at our Hillel at the University of Arizona in Tucson and thought that you might be able to advise me. I am a pre-med student and am looking to volunteer in an overseas medical clinic this summer. I am seeking for a challenging location where I could help underprivileged people. Do you have any ideas?

The Aish Rabbi Replies

What a wonderful idea and a meaningful way to spend your summer vacation.

I think the best place to volunteer is in Israel. It promises to be a highly rewarding experience for you, and Israel always needs extra help.

Most hospitals have a volunteer program, and you can try contacting them directly. A listing of Israeli hospitals is at www.doctor.co.il/zhospitalslink.htm

If you want to be in Jerusalem, the center of the Jewish world, the two biggest hospitals are Shaare Tzedek (www.szmc.org.il) and Haddassah (www.haddassah.org).

You can also try an emergency services organization called Hatzola (www.hatzola.org.il), and Yad Sarah, a medical services group (www.yadsarah.org/index.asp?id=72).

Finally, there is an organization which can help place you at an Israeli hospital – www.vfi-usa.org

Best of luck – Israel needs you!
