If you’ve scrolled on TikTok or Instagram recently, chances are you’ve seen the latest craze of “Dirty Soda” across your feed.

Dirty Soda has been a cult classic in Utah, popularized by the chain “Swig”, it’s time to shine in the rest of the US was catapulted by pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo after she sported a larger than life styrofoam cup filled with ice, soda, cream, fruit, and syrups. Yup, you heard that right, they’re adding their own flavors into soda. Their most popular flavor? A mixture of cola, coconut syrup, half and half, and lime. After being shared by the pop icon, #dirtysoda now has over 1.3 million views of people enjoying their soda concoction.

While this may sound like a new and novel idea, we’ve been doctoring up our sodas for years, from Italian sodas (carbonated water and fruit syrups) and the beloved Jewish deli staple of the egg cream.

You don’t need to fly all the way to Utah to sip on Dirty Soda, you can DIY your own, with a Jew-ish twist! Instead of coconut syrup and half and half, we’re using naturally tropical coconut milk, and a drizzle of chocolate U-Bet syrup, the secret ingredient in the classic Egg Cream!

“Eat, O dear ones, and drink: drink deep, O loving companions.” (Song of Songs) Get more Jewish food thoughts here.
