Bechukotai (Leviticus 26:3-27:34 )

"Bechukotai," 2014, acrylic on canvas, 90 x 120 cm.

If you will walk in My statutes, and keep My commandments, and do them…I will place My Sanctuary in your midst, and My Spirit will not reject you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people. I am the Lord, your God, who took you out of the land of Egypt... (Leviticus 26: 3, 11-13)

As a reward for keeping the commandments, God promises to walk among His people, bringing them to the Promised Land and the eventual building of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Embraced by a warm glow of color, the people who have left Egypt move forward with dignity toward the vision of the Temple beyond the purple mountains in the distance. Deep blue-violet shades enhance the feeling of majesty and expansiveness, while the vertical lines suggest the grandeur of the Temple and heighten our sense of elation and spiritual elevation. The golden light that emanates from the sanctuary illuminates their pathway. As they walk in the light of God, even the shadows that the people cast are luminous.
