Rabbi Shulman took up a new position as a Rabbi in a smaller city in Texas. He was having some trouble connecting to his congregants as he was a New Yorker and they were, well, real Texans.

So he came up with an idea to make the language of the Torah relevant in the language of Texas. He posted the following outside of his shul:

The Texas Ten Commandments:

  1. I’m God.
  2. Ain’t no one else.
  3. Don’t use m’name if you don’t gotta.
  4. Git yourself to shul on Shabbos.
  5. Honor your Ma and Pa.
  6. No killin.'
  7. No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
  8. Don't take what ain't yers.
  9. Watch yer mouth.
  10. Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff.
